About Pathfinder film

Pathfinder comes in two kinds of color film. The "Sight 3" stocks, 640T, 320D and 50D, are Kodak Vision3 cinema film made with Kodak's new Anti-Halation Undercoat (AHU) instead of remjet, so they develop in standard C-41 chemistry at any lab, including ours. The ECN-2 stocks, 50D and 200T, are Kodak Vision3 with the traditional remjet backing. They need a lab that handles remjet, and we develop them in house*. "X 250D X" is Kodak Double-X 5222, the classic black and white cinema stock, and develops in standard black and white chemistry.

Heads up: Pathfinder rolls are not DX coded, so set the ISO on your camera by hand. On a point-and-shoot that defaults to ISO 100, use the exposure compensation dial.

*We remove the remjet and cross-process ECN-2 film in our own custom C-41 process, which yields results nearly identical to traditional ECN-2 development.

Shoot it, then send it to us

We're a film lab as well as a film shop. When your roll is done, send it back to Old School Photo Lab for developing and scans with 35mm film processing. We develop every Pathfinder stock, including the ECN-2 rolls with remjet. Every black and white roll, including X 250D X, gets hand dust and scratch removal at no extra charge.

Pathfinder film FAQ

Is Pathfinder real Kodak film?

Yes. Each roll is genuine Kodak motion picture film (Vision3 500T, 250D, 200T, 50D or Eastman Double-X 5222) that Todays Pursuit hand-respools into standard 35mm cassettes for still cameras.

Do I need remjet removal or ECN-2 processing?

It depends on the stock. The "Sight 3" stocks (640T, 320D and 50D) use Kodak's Anti-Halation Undercoat (AHU) instead of remjet, so any lab can develop them in normal C-41. If you'd rather process those in ECN-2, rate 640T at ISO 500 and 320D at ISO 200.

The ECN-2 stocks (50D ECN-2 and 200T ECN-2) have the traditional remjet backing and can't go through a standard C-41 run. We develop them in house: we remove the remjet and cross-process them in our own custom C-41 process, which yields results nearly identical to traditional ECN-2 development.

What's the difference between 50D "Sight 3" and 50D ECN-2?

Both are Kodak Vision3 50D (5203), shot at ISO 50. "Sight 3" is made with AHU instead of remjet, so any lab can develop it in C-41. The ECN-2 version has the original remjet backing, the way the stock is made for motion pictures, and needs a lab that handles remjet, like us.

What ISO do I set on my camera?

640 for 640T, 320 for 320D, 200 for 200T, 50 for either 50D, and 250 in daylight or 200 under tungsten for X 250D X.

How is 640T different from CineStill 800T?

Both start from Kodak's 500T tungsten cinema stock. CineStill removes the remjet layer and rates it at 800. Pathfinder 640T is made with Kodak's AHU layer instead and is rated at 640 for proper exposure in C-41.

Can you develop Pathfinder film?

Yes, every stock. We develop the "Sight 3" color stocks in C-41, the ECN-2 stocks in house (remjet removed, cross-processed in our custom C-41), and X 250D X in black and white chemistry, with scans delivered online. Mail your rolls in or drop them off at the lab in Dover, NH.
